Paul, draws strong inspiration from his native West Yorkshire, a place that continues to influence both the subject matter and atmosphere of his work. His interest in art began around ten years ago after buying a painting of the cobbled streets of his childhood by Bradford artist Bob Barker. The piece had a lasting impact on Paul, who now regards Barker as a mentor. After a year of tuition, Paul discovered that oil paint best suited his style, valuing its fluidity and flexibility for creating richly atmospheric Northern street scenes.
Early success came when he won an Open Art Competition by public vote at his first attempt. Building on this achievement, Paul refined his approach and held a charity exhibition, which helped establish his work as collectable while raising a substantial sum for a local hospice. Paul continues to credit his mentor for giving him the skills to translate ideas into paintings. Still living in West Yorkshire, he remains deeply inspired by the region’s metropolitan and industrial character.
